RICE GRADUATE APARTMENTS
MOVE OUT
GUIDE

RICE GRADUATE APARTMENTSMOVE OUT DATE: You will receive a move-out
notice with your scheduled move out date and any prorated rent that may
apply. If there is a discrepancy between
the date you gave us and the date on the notice, you need to notify us
immediately. Rooms will need to be
prepared for the summer program participants who will be housed at RGA this
summer. It takes a minimum of 2 days to
prepare a room; therefore it is imperative that you move out on your stated
lease end date. If you choose to
move-out earlier than the specified move-out date, you will still have to pay
rent up to your lease end date or lease extension date
FINAL UTILITIES:
You need to make arrangements with your roommate to pay your final
electric bill. If you and your roommate
are both moving out, please call Reliant and have them take the utilities out
of your name effective the last day of your lease term. If the utilities are in your roommate’s name
and he/she moves out first, you need to call Reliant and have the utilities
transferred to your name. Plan ahead
because it can take 3-5 days for Reliant to process a service request.
If Rice Graduate Apartments is billed for your electric
service, or if you schedule your electric service for disconnection before the
date your lease or lease extension ends, you will be billed for that amount and
you will be assessed an additional service charge of $25.00.
EARLY MOVE OUT AND OTHER LEASE VIOLATIONS: This notice does not constitute approval of
an early move out and does not constitute release of any resident’s liability
for money due under the Lease Contract.
Rice Graduate Apartments reserve all contractual and statutory remedies
for unauthorized early move out.
CLEANING: Under the
Lease Contract, you must leave the apartment in clean condition. All residents are responsible for the common
areas of their apartment. Before a
walk-through is conducted, please get together with your roommate(s) and
clean. Since you are all responsible,
any common area charges assessed will be split equally amongst the residents of
the apartment, regardless of who is moving out and who is staying.
FORWARDING ADDRESS:
Please provide a forwarding address where we should mail your security
deposit refund. Be sure to print so that
it is legible. Checks can only be issued
to the leaseholder, and deposits cannot be refunded in any form except a check. If 30 days has passed since the end date of
your lease and you have not received a refund check, please contact our office
at (713) 348-4723.
BEST
WISHES TO YOU!

following policies and procedures. The staff at Rice Graduate Apartments hopes
that you have enjoyed living here, and we wish you the best in all your future
endeavors.

the front door key, room key, mailbox key, clicker, exit survey, and forwarding
address information in the checkout envelope provided. Deliver the envelope to the RGA office
between 9:00 AM – 10:00 PM Monday thru Friday and 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM on
Saturdays and Sundays. You must use
the checkout envelope provided to drop off your keys because it completely
details what needs to be turned in and has a handy checklist. It is your responsibility to make sure that
all keys are returned before you leave.

WALK
THROUGH
You must
request for RGA management to check your apartment for damages/charges before
you leave. This inspection is
required. The walk through can be
done Monday through Friday 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM since it must be completed
by a member of management or maintenance.
APARTMENT
PREPARATION
To
prepare your apartment for checkout, you must
o
Remove
all personal belongings from the rooms and breezeways
o
Return
all furniture to its original position
o
Clean
the bedroom, bathroom, living area, and kitchen
Your
apartment needs to be returned to its original condition. All residents are equally responsible for the
common areas. For common area damages,
the damage will be divided by the number of residents and will be charged to
all. The cost of damages is based on
what we are charged by the cleaning companies.
If one person wants to take financial responsibility for specific common
area damage, he/she must write a detailed letter to management. Any person staying at RGA past the end of
their lease term will be billed additional charges.
RGA is not responsible for personal property left in your
room. Please take all your belongings
with you, and anything that is left in your room will be discarded.

properly! Place your trash inside the
dumpster, not beside or around it. Trash
and debris on walkways, breezeways, etc. present a fire hazard. If you fail to take your trash with you, an
extra charge of $25 per bag will be applied to your account. Please do not leave behind unwanted furniture
for the next resident. You must return
any furniture belonging to the loan closet to the loan closet. If you leave it in your apartment, you will
get charged for trash and it will be discarded.
Make sure you contact Mrs. Margrave and make arrangements to return it
to the loan closet. Mrs. Margrave can be
reached at 713-667-9887.

FINAL UTILITIES:
Again, you need to make
arrangements with your roommate to pay your final electric bill. If you and your roommate are both moving out,
you need to call Reliant and have them take the utilities out of your name
effective the last day of your lease term.
If the utilities are in your roommate’s name and he/she moves out first,
you need to call Reliant and have the utilities transferred to your name. You need to plan ahead; sometimes it can
take 3-5 days for Reliant to process a service request.
If the bill comes to Rice
Graduate Apartments, or if you schedule your electric service for disconnection
before the date your lease or lease extension ends, you will be billed for that
amount and you will be assessed an additional service charge of $25.00.
MAIL:
You need to notify all those
who send you bills of your new address and you need to provide RGA with your
new address to forward your mail. We
must have this address in order to mail your security deposit to you. Please double –check the address you give us
to avoid any delays in mailing your refund check. RGA will forward your mail
for two months from your move out date.
After this period, any mail that comes to RGA will be returned to
sender. Please be aware that First Class
mail is the only type of mail that can be forwarded. All other mail cannot be forwarded. If you do not provide RGA with a forwarding
address, all your mail will be returned to the sender. Only First Class packages can be
forwarded. It is very important that you
notify all who write you of your new address.
Once you move out, you cannot have access to your former mailbox.
